After reviewing all four issues of the mini-series Eve: Vampire Diva, published by Arcana Studios, I decided to interview this artist who has a refreshingly different artistic approach. I was curious about how he landed the Eve: Vampire Diva project, and I wanted to find out more about his work on the book, and any other projects he's worked on as well.

How did you end up being the artist of the Eve: Vampire Diva series?

ASH: I replied to an ad Frank posted on a website called digitalwebbing.com (a really handy site for artist and writers to get in touch with each other). I drew up the eight page pitch, and a little while later, he told me we have a publisher!

How much creative freedom did you have with this book?

ASH: A good amount. Frank decided how many panels, and, if there was a particular angle he wanted in a panel, he would let me know. Most of the time though, he let me layout the pages however I wanted.

What was your favourite scene or page to draw in this mini-series?

ASH: Thats tough. I enjoyed the last four pages of issue 4, because I really dig the way the story ends. However, I think its a tie between drawing Eve fully vamped out (issue 4), and Eve ditching Eddie in the coffee shop(issue 3).

Are there any other comic book series you could see yourself doing the interior art for?

ASH: Absolutely! I'm working on a few pitches right now. As long as I think I can bring something to a story, and the time allows, I'll give it a go.

Where do you get inspiration for your work?

ASH: I guess I try to get inspiration out of everything, but I really just love drawing. I find it relaxing, so most of the time I don't definitely need inspiration...if that makes any sense!

Did you enjoy working on a book like Eve: Vampire Diva and would you ever work on it again as an on-going project?

ASH: Yes, I'm actually going to be starting on the Eve origin story in the next few weeks. Frank put together a cool story, and I think people are going to like it.

Are there any other projects in the works that you would like to let readers know about?

ASH: I'm working on another story Frank wrote called "Demon's Trail." You can check out five preview pages here: http://demonstrail.blogspot.com/. It's cool because it takes place in the same world as Eve! I'm also currently doing a few other pitches, as well.

I noticed you and your brother worked on a project called the Onyx Obelisk, it looks interesting. Can you tell us anything about it?

ASH: It's about a boy named Tip who has to go on a massive journey from his home town, Doe Haven, to the Windy Valley to awaken an ancient lizard man paladin named Ajax. We already know how it begins and and ends, and about most of the middle part; it's just a matter of finding the time to draw it. I'm hoping to find a publisher for it at some point!

Thank you Ash for being part of this interview. I'm certainly looking forward to the origin story and I'm sure Eve's fans are too! Good luck with the Onyx Obelisk and the Demon's Trail, they both look terrific! I can't wait to see more of your amazing artwork in the future.
