Words can not really describe how pleased I am with One Year Later so far. This event has really made me more excited for DC Comics then I’ve ever been. It is rare to have an event like this go so well. This book was one of the OYL books I was looking forward to the most. The preview art had me hyped and the new costume is fantastic. Once we get past all the pretty pictures, is Robin still worth the hype? Oh yes it is!

So what is different for the Boy Wonder OYL? Well besides an amazing new costume, Robin is back in Gotham. We can’t say that this is a good thing, since he is wanted for the murder of Batgirl by the GCPD! Robin has been set up badly in this issue, but I like the fact he wants to handle this case by himself. Batman is always there to help but Robin is the type that can use his own skills to solve his own problems.

I’m glad Adam Beechen writes like he’s been on this book since issue #1. The way Tim was written honestly reminds me of the classic Chuck Dixon run. He already understands what kind of character Robin is and what the fans want to see. A lot of people had doubts because Beechen was the writer of the Justice League Unlimited comics. They thought he would have a kiddy approach to Robin. I find it funny people would give him a hard time for having previous writing experience on a majority of the DC Universe that just happens to be animated versions. Beechen is already proving to be a fan favorite with this first issue alone. He is giving the Boy Wonder action, suspense, adventure, and even a little humor all in the first issue alone.

Karl Kerschl has always been a beast when it comes to art. I have to say this is his best work so far. I’ve followed the artist since his work on Majestic and his Robin is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Some say his Robin is a little short but last time I remembered Robin isn’t a tall guy. Tim is only 5”4 at best the last time I checked.

It seems each time a character gets a new costume, they get an amazing storyline to back them up. It is happening with Spider-Man, and now Robin is getting the same treatment. I hope people are checking this book out. This looks like it will be one of the best OYL titles out. If you want to see how Robin sneaks in and out of the police station to clear his name, jump onboard!
