Ah! Absolute Zeroes! It’s been about a year since I’ve read the first issue. Luckily Jeremy Dale had the second issue available at Wizard World Chicago. The first issue was pretty fun. We got a bizarre twist of a superhero origin for siblings Alex and Ashley. This issue we get to see just what powers the two actually received and what they will do with them.
The reason I find myself drawn to this title is its simple goal of making an enjoyable read. Ashley and Alex aren’t the perfect heroes and it is fun to see them learning just what they can do. It seems Ashley has gained super-speed while Alex is pretty much a walking bomb. Before they can really take in what has happened to them, Alex is given gauntlets to compress his abilities and are told to “cover” for the missing Vic Victory.
The story is progressing along at a slow but pleasing rate. The siblings’ first major battle was a fun one. It isn’t the type of comic battle you’d be used to in your average super-hero comic. The solution to defeating the enemy is just as crazy as how the threat got his powers in the first place.
Jeremy Dale is someone I always try to take time to meet at the con each year. He is a nice guy to talk to and you can tell that he is really passionate about his work. So far, Dale has created an amusing story. Dale being able to present his own art helps makes sure that he gets the book to look the way he envisioned it. I really like Dale’s style of art. Really reminds me of Todd Nauck’s, who is a favorite artist of mine. I could see Dale doing some major work at Marvel or DC in the future.
Absolute Zeroes is one of those books that are just meant to be enjoyed. No big events or major moments that will be rewritten out of continuity. If I’m correct you can order the first two issues of this series on www.jeremy-dale.com. If you are looking for a good book from an unexpected place, give it a shot.
