The story of the Returners continues. This is a strange plot by the Cylons. If they've done it on purpose, then this clearly is one of the more evil things they've done. Based on what we see this issue, it looks like it may actually be an accident, or at least, something they didn't mean to do. Seems that either these humans were created by a ship that should have been destroyed, or for practice, or for some other reason. It was bad enough when the Cylons could look like normal humans -- but it's much worse if they can make Cylons look like humans that we KNOW aren't Cylons.

But besides that, this story gives viewers of BSG something we haevn't seen on the show, Zak Adama in action. So, we do know that Zak is a subpar pilot, who thinks he was a good one. We know that Kara passed him on his flight test, even though he didn't deserve it. We know that that decision wound up costing Zak his life. What we don't know -- much -- is what kind of kid he was. If his portrayal in this issue is to be belived, then Zak is every bit the guy his father and brother are.

Oh, and what a shock to see Billy again! I mean, sure, of course he's there, the book happens before he dies. But wow, I totally wasn't ready to see him on the page. What a weird thing that was! I can only think that was put in for us, while it did seem natural in teh story, it could have gone without. But seeing old friends who are now gone is one more plus in this book's column.

I wont say too much about this story and about how this storyline is going, it's as good as the show is, that is, the show that's been called "The Best Show on TV." What I do want to talk about is how my fears from issue #1 are now totally gone. The possiblities in the BSG universe are pretty vast, going forward and backwards in time, and this series is a pretty good way to tell them. If this arc is an example of what Dynamite plans on giving us, with the wealth of content they have to work with, the solid work by Pak and Raynor, then this is going to be a book no fan can pass up.
