This new mini-series from QEW Publishing is about a small town deputy sheriff named Cody Coyote. Does she live up to the name? That's what we'll find out in this second part of the story. This issue continues directly on from the previous issue where Cody is facing certain death by the hands of the Spider Brothers, but fortunately for Cody, she manages to escape them. The town of El Mesa is in mourning for Cal who was killed trying to protect Cody. Unfortunately for Cody, it's not long until she runs into the Spider Brothers gangsters again, and this time, she might not be so lucky! Cody is made the new town Sheriff after Cal's untimely death at the hands of the Spider Brothers. The first thing she does as soon as she is appointed Sheriff is to declare that she will hunt down Cal's murderers and bring justice to them for what they did. The DEA also wants to take over Cody's case, but there's no way she'll let that happen.

Despite what Cody has been through now, she is still determined to keep her wits about her and continue doing her job but as Sheriff now instead. The writer makes her out to be a strong woman, who is clearly capable of taking care of herself and others. Cody has quite enough to contend with at the moment, but little does she know that there is a mysterious stranger in her town who seems to be up to no good, and the Spider Brothers are still out to make trouble any way they can. Another stranger has appeared on the horizon and he appears to have genuine concerns for Cody's well-being and I can only assume he's Cody's father or someone very close to her. The writer is building up suspense by giving us (the readers) lots of little lingering mysteries. The pacing is slow at first, but as the story gathers momentum, it becomes much more action packed towards the end when it seems like things have gone badly wrong. This issue didn't tell us much more about Cody's character apart from her attitude, but instead seemed much more focused on introducing other characters to the readers.

The artwork has nice, bold lines around each character so they stand out. The artist did a great job of drawing people since he captures their shocked and surprised reactions . The artist has kept the panels simple and uncluttered so the spotlight is clearly on the characters and what they are doing. Cody is drawn well so her every pose is showing off her strong attitude. The colouring is consistent throughout the comic, and what I love the most about it is that it blends in well with the setting. I like how the colourist has done some nice textures and lovely gradients in the background of the panels.

This mini-series so far has been focusing on Cody as a character and how she handles tough situations. What impresses me the most about this mini-series so far is that even though Cody is apparently meant to be a sexy character, she is still treated like she is a woman who can stand up for herself and is respected by others. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. I enjoyed the action and the pacing in this issue as well as the new characters who are shrouded in mystery. This mini-series is four issues long and there is more information about this title available at - http://www.qewpublishing.com/
