In the sixth trade paperback of "Jaeger", things are about to get very bizarre indeed. The vampire hitman Jaeger is greeted by an unexpected visitor one day who has a proposal for him. He's curious enough to accept the offer of joining the US Army's own PSI Force, even though he has reservations about it initially. During his time at the Institute, he meets up again with an old friend Sandy who he saved from assassination. Jaeger was ordered to kill her but he couldn't bring himself to do it as she saved his life once so he helped her escape. Once again,Sandy and Jaeger have to team up with the other PSI Force members to eliminate another threat to their existence.

This volume goes back to familiar locations and characters with the storyline more firmly focused on the PSI Force and the trainees. Jaeger has to help Sandy to expose the head of the Psionic Sciences Institute Director Styner as a dangerous traitor. Marc Jaeger also learns more about his true nature, and that his super-strength/regenerative powers may be the result of a genetic experiment. He may not even be a vampire in the usual sense either, so it would explain why he has unusual abilities that other vampires don't have. While undergoing the training for psykers, he discovers another amazing ability he didn't know he had. He has a psychic ability to "scream" which means he can disrupt nearby psykers telepathically. Fortunately for Jaeger, this new power is awakened at the right time as it's needed when Director Styner's influence extends to other telepaths.

The artwork in this trade paperback by series artist Tanya Nicholls is consistent with the feel of the previous volumes. It's dark and gritty which matches the pulp adult nature of the story. It's often sketchy and wild when it needs to be but with the artwork carefully polished so it's visually clear what is happening in each scene. The use of cross-hatching shading adds extra depth to the monochromatic art.

I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys vampire or supernatural stories with plenty of intrigue and mystery to keep you on your toes the whole time. This volume is more adult-orientated than ever, and I wouldn't suggest this particular one for anyone who's easily offended by mature themes, nudity and violence. This edition collects issues 24 to 29 of the on-going series by Tanya Nicholls. There's also a pin-up of the six different identities of Marc Jaeger, as well as another one of Jaeger and another character from Storm Publishing "Mission".
