For those that have been following the JLA recently, The CSA (Crime Syndicate of Amerika ) are back, and they are on Earth-1. We have had the pleasure of being able to learn a lot about the CSA in the past issue. In fact, the JLA has barely been in the past few issues. So if you found yourself missing the JLA, well they are finally showing up, due to the CSA making their presence known. So if you wanted a big brawl between the CSA and the JLA, this is your issue.
The main theme of this issue was to have the JLA finally discover the CSA is on Earth, and to do something about it. Well that was the plan…. The whole issue was one great fight, with the CSA destroying the JLA. One thing I really liked is that the JLA end up getting saved by Cyborg and Beast Boy, it was a nice surprise I didn’t expect at all. Flash ends up doing a super speed retreat with the team. Apparently, there is a rule that the CSA can’t win on Earth-1, and the same for the JLA on Earth-2. I didn’t know about this but I suppose it makes sense. This wasn’t the case at all. We learn that the events from JLA/Avengers ended up having effects on both Earths. (Remember Krona?) Nice to see it some what ties in to modern continuity.
The issue ended with the JLA healing up from their wounds and getting ready to fight again. This time they are calling in the reserves (and the Elite, a favorite of mine).
Nice to see JLA/Avengers is being somewhat recalled by the CSA. If you remember they were destroyed and tampered with in that event. I wonder if Marvel has any plans on their side for this as well.
I’m really digging Kurt’s take on the JLA. What I’m really enjoying is his CSA, maybe after this is all over we can have a CSA mini of some sort. He has really made me care for these characters recently. I’m also interested as to who he will bring in the aid the JLA next issue besides the ones we see on the cover for next month.
I’ve been hearing some complaints about Garney’s art. Honestly I’m digging it. Only thing that bothered me in this issue was a costume error on Aquaman. One panel he had on one glove (which he isn’t supposed to have on at all), another panel he has on two gloves. Being the big Aquaman fan I am, it bothered me, but in the end, who really cares.
The one thing I have not liked about this story so far is the boring Qwardian army scenes they throw in each issue. I can’t really put anymore detail into it because they don’t excite me at all. Other than that the story has been great with this issue being the best of the run.
If you’re curious about this story, you better act fast. Three of these issues are sold out at Diamond, so your have a harder time finding these if you don’t act fast. You could always wait for the trade, but what’s the fun in that?
