Grade Explanation: A slow build of a story, but people like me like that kind of plot. A different look at the DCU in terms of aliens and genetics. Neat concept that has great potential.

I need to state right off that I have a sinus infection and just finished up family responsibilities due to a death. I had planned to get reviews up earlier, but alas, it was not to be. I did want to let our loyal readers know of a few titles that they might be overlooking and Human Race is one such title. It is by a friend of PBR's, Benjamin Raab. How to describe it is difficult. As a DC title it is different from what I have experienced of their stable of books. This seven issue series has a great plot of conspiracy and genetic tampering by aliens lifeforms and power mad humans. It did confirm this issue that it is in the DCU.

I wonder if there is a tie in to the Infinite Crisis that is brewing at DC. It would be neat and funny if this book was a bread crumb to the larger scheme of things. Either way, this is a comicbook that has action and drama galore. There is even a romantic element brewing between our protaganist, Ulysses and the woman codenamed Nymph. She is by far the most "human" of the group that says they are pledged to save humanity. I am wary of them and their methods as I read. Something scream that Ulysses should not trust them, but for now, they are all he has.

The name Ulysses is not lost on me. It very much is a book about a man's journey from being lost, in this case to humanity, and his attempts to be able to return home. That makes this a great story in my opinion. It has that tragic feel to it. Ulysses is slowly being turned from human into the destruction of his planet. He will be the herald of a new race of beings that will take over. It all comes from a genetic invasion that started millinea ago. This is a superb comicbook, but I doubt many are picking it up because of the other high level titles DC has coming out currently. That is why it would be funny if this turned out to hold a key element to the grand DCU mystery that is brewing.

Lace up your running shoes and join the race.
