This is perfect timing here. This will be the first review where I received the title from the company itself for reviewing purposes. I’ve been itching to move out of the majority of DC titles I read and trying some new things. (I still like DC just having an overload) So this was perfecting timing when I was asked to review these titles. I wanted something original and fresh, something where I would have no idea what to expect. So now that I finally sat down and really read them, I will tell you this………I was no disappointed at all.
Myriad has a really interesting way of delivering many stories at once. It is a six issue mini-series from Approbation Comics. The cool thing is that they tell five stories in one book each month that go from superheroes to pirates or even a mystery story. Each of the five stories goes on until they conclude in issue #6. I like this because you get a lot for your $3.00, and you get a lot of variety out of one book as well.
The first story goes by the name of ChiSai. I will be honest this was the one I was looking forward to the most when I first received the books. It is a story of revenge and payback vigilante style. The character named Shy is attacking any “job” related to the crime boss who tried to kill her. She barely survives her latest outing which leads to her going home wounded. This of course is disrupting her house life as well as she is putting more time into her mission then her family.
In general, I really enjoyed the first story alone to make me get the continuing issues. The dark shadowed are fit the story really nice.
Next up is Lineage. The story is set in a futuristic world where a character named Janus is sent to investigate the mystery behind the missing city Appalacia. Janus is a super powered being which can fly, shoot beams from his hands, and seems to be somewhat invulnerable. He goes to the city to see a forest in its place and a pointy eared person with a staff named O’ryn. Before he can get a real clue of what is going on. The team that sent him ordered the place destroy, which is something that can no be done so easily. As Janus and O’ryn escape, Janus now finds himself marked as a traitor and running from the people who he used to work for.
This story was really great as well, another story I will like to see through to the end.
Now the next story was called The Adventures of "The Molly Be Damned". I didn’t enjoy this one as much due to the simple fact I’m not big on pirates. I still managed to find it somewhat interesting. The story is about a cursed crew of a pirate ship. Many things happen as the curse continues to attack the crew. It was pretty interesting but not my favorite of the bunch.
Next we have Discount Stories which was pretty fun to read. We follow the lives and stories of employees who work at a Wal-Mart like store. They manage to tell some unique stories about real life, so you can relate to them. The art is a little weird in this section of the book, but it gets the story across just fine. Each issue they continue by looking at the life of another person who works at the store. Overall, it was a great read.
Finally, we have Frail, a really twisted tale that isn’t set in the world of fantasy. It is hard to describe what is truly going on but it is good so far. Another story I look forward to seeing through to the end.
If you liked what I had to say about the issue, go to your local comic shop and see if you can order the past issues and remaining ones through Diamond. It is really worth checking out, for those who just want great stories in general. Support a book that deserves support like this one.
